Last week, two of our staff members, Hilary Jenkins-Beard and Karen Wignall, attended the Holex Network Conference, where they had the opportunity to hear a powerful speech delivered by Skills Minister, Jacqui Smith. The conference focused on key themes such as Quality, Qualifications, and Progression, aligning closely with our mission to empower adult learners in Blackburn with Darwen.
Minister Smith highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and the critical role adult education plays in breaking down barriers to opportunity, driving economic growth, and fostering social change. She addressed pressing challenges, including digital skills gaps and economic inactivity, while also outlining the government’s vision for a coherent and inclusive skills system.
A standout moment of the speech was the recognition of how adult education transforms lives—not only by providing qualifications but by offering tailored learning that builds confidence and unlocks opportunities. These principles are at the heart of what we strive to achieve every day at BwD Adult Learning.

We’re proud to continue supporting the lifelong learning journey of our learners and look forward to contributing to these vital discussions in the future.
